Filing Thresholds for 2013

If your gross income meets or exceeds the following levels and you are under age 65, you must file a tax return in 2013:

Single $ 10,000
Head of Household $12,850
Married Filing Jointly $20,000
Married Filing Separately $ 3,900
Qualifying Widow or Widower $16,100

If you were 65 or older by the end of 2013, you can add $1,500 to the amounts shown above for single filers or a head of household. If one of the spouses filing jointly is 65 or older, add an extra $1,200. If both spouses are 65 or older on a joint return, you can add $2,400 to the amount shown, so the threshold would be $22,400. There is no additional amount available for married filing separately.
