A summary of Rhode Island laws relating to weapons and conduct that impact workplace violence.
A license or permit is required for carrying a pistol or revolver in a vehicle or conveyance or on or about the person, whether visible or concealed. No license is required within a person's own dwelling house or place of business or on land possessed by the person.
A Rhode Island license to carry a weapon is not required by a person who is the holder of a valid license or permit issued by another state or territory of the United States, or a political subdivision of a state or territory of the United States, allowing that person to carry a pistol or revolver in a vehicle or conveyance or on or about his or her person, whether visible or concealed, provided that the person is merely transporting the firearm through the state in a vehicle or other conveyance without intent to remain within the state.
A license or permit is not required to carry or transport a pistol or revolver to or from one's home or place of business to a target practice range or to a shoot meet or practice, provided that the pistol or revolver is broken down, unloaded and carried as openly as circumstances will permit, or unloaded and secured in a separate container.
A person may not have in his or her possession or under his or her control any firearm while the person delivers, possesses with intent to deliver or manufactures a controlled substance, even if the person has a license or permit to carry or possess a firearm.
