Oregon Rules for Employing Minors

Employers in Oregon must conform with these state rules relating to the employment of minors.

A minor under the age of 18 in Oregon may not be employed unless the employer applies to the Wage and Hour Commission for an annual employment certificate to employ minors.

A minor cannot be employed to operate or assist in the operation of power-driven farm machinery unless the employer has first obtained the required employment certificate and the minor has received the required training in the operation of the machinery.

The employer must keep employment certificates on file and accessible to school authorities in the minor's school district, the police and the Wage and Hour Commission.
